Route

 The Plan

4,000+ miles

150,000+ feet (of elevation gain)

33 days of cycling

Start: Florence, OR - Mid July 2022

Finish: Myrtle Beach, SC - 3rd Week of August 2022

Daily Average Miles: 125 miles

Most of the route will roughly follow the TransAmerica Trail. When looking at the map, it may seem like there are crazy long detours in the route. This is largely because of limited bike-safe roads that go all the way through the mountains. I am planning to ride a road bike, so sections of gravel and off-road terrain are very limited as well. I plan to deviate from the TransAmerica Trail route to detour north to my hometown of St. Louis, MO and then again at the end of the ride to head to South Carolina, where I have family (instead of the normal route through Virginia).

While I will mostly be riding by myself, I will have a support team that will be driving a rented RV with supplies (and allergy safe food) to assist me and provide a place to sleep each night. My wife, my mother, and my aunt will be switching as drivers for the RV during the pass through St. Louis.

We will be mostly avoiding travelling through big cities directly, but we will still come close to several. Hopefully we can coordinate some group rides to join me for part of my day when possible. Locations and dates for these rides will be added here in the future. Sign up at the bottom of this page to get updates on the challenging trip and possible group rides in your area. We look forward to riding with you!
